IDRC has recently begun supporting research projects in Sierra Leone after a decade-long hiatus. Support essentially halted during Sierra Leone’s civil war from 1991 to 2002. The conflict, which was fueled by the proceeds of smuggled diamonds, ravaged the country. It devastated the agriculture sector, destroyed institutions, and caused many professionals to flee. IDRC’s recent support reflects these realities. Two activities aim to strengthen urban agriculture; another focuses on public–private partnerships for infrastructure development. Recent IDRC-supported research contributed to monitoring the international diamond trade. Open file : Sierra Leone eng web.pdf
