IDRC began supporting research in Mozambique almost 30 years ago. The bloody civil war that raged through the country from the late 1970s to the early 1990s severely limited programming, but support increased following the signing of peace accords in 1992 and multiparty elections in 1994.

Mozambique has since become a successful example of post-conflict reconstruction, and IDRC has supported its efforts on a number of fronts.
