Honduras is a country endowed with high biodiversity. In contrast to its natural wealth, the country faces extreme rates of poverty. A number of inter-connected factors contribute to the over-exploitation and destruction of its natural resources. Some of these include: land tenure insecurity; weak law enforcement; concentration of land and wealth; and difficult market access for small-scale farmers.
IDRC projects in Honduras have focused on tackling issues such as conflict over natural resources, watershed management; improving agricultural practices and addressing Chagas disease.
