Abstract

The Digital Cities Awards Program is designed to recognize municipalities that have effectively integrated the use of information and communication technology (ICT) into the economic, social and cultural life of their cities. The 2005 Awards Program is being financed by the Institute for Connectivity in the Americas in collaboration with two new partners, CISCO Systems and Microsoft. Awards will be offered in three categories, for large, medium and small cities, respectively. In addition to this, there will be an award for E-integration for best inclusion of women in the ICT field and an award for e-cooperation, best example of e-government knowledge and technology transfer between two cities. The five winners will be announced during an official ceremony at the VI Encuentro Iberoamericano de Ciudades Digitales in Florianópolis (Brasil) in late September 2005. This grant will support the ICA-sponsored portion of the event, mainly an interactive session for the awardees to share their experiences in Bogotá, one of the previous year's winners. The visit will include a one-day training session conducted by the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI ) and a tour of Manizales and Castilla la Nueva, two other Colombian cities that were finalists in last year's competition.
