IDRC Celebrates 40 Years of Innovating for Development

Follow IDRC:

Since its creation in 1970, IDRC has helped researchers in developing countries find new ways to improve health, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and promote democracy. Forty years later, IDRC continues to fund innovative research and knowledge that works.

Throughout the year, IDRC will mark this milestone by highlighting the contributions that our staff and research partners have made over the past four decades.

  • As part of the year-long Speakers of Renown series, we welcome internationally respected speakers such as South African politician Trevor Manuel; writer Ramachandra Guha, historian Margaret MacMillan, and geneticist Gebisa Ejeta, who kicks off the series on February 3.

  • Every month, a Lasting Impacts minisite will present IDRC-funded research projects that continue to make a difference long after their end dates.

  • In a special effort at outreach, IDRC staff members will be visiting Canadian universities from coast to coast as part of CIDA's International Development Week activities.

  • In October, we will launch the long-awaited book THE INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH CENTRE: 40 Years of Ideas, Innovation, and Impact which chronicles the history of IDRC.

To find out about upcoming events and announcements sign up for the IDRC Bulletin.

We look forward to celebrating with all Canadians and the international development community.
